Rebecca Whitman Koford, CG®, CGL℠, longtime Executive Director of the Board for Certification of Genealogists (BCG), has elected to retire from her position with BCG at the end of June 2024. The Board has selected Darcie Hind Posz, CG®, FASG, as the new Executive Director.
Rebecca Koford, a Maryland resident, was certified in 2013 and became the Executive Director in 2018. She was the seventh person to hold the administrative reins in BCG’s 60-year history, following Richard E. Spurr (1964–1973); Donna R. Hotaling, CGRS (1973–1982); John Frederick Dorman, CG Emeritus (1982–1996); Marty Hiatt, CGRS (1996–2001); Lynn C. McMillion, CG Emeritus (2001–2010); and Nicki Peak Birch, CG® (2010–2018).
BCG President Faye Jenkins Stallings, CG®, noted that “Rebecca has served with exceptionalism, with continued focus on improving processes, and serving all of our associates and applicants with respect and diligence. She will certainly be missed!” She added the Board’s thanks to Rebecca for all her many contributions to BCG’s operations.
Darcie Hind Posz, CG®, FASG, a resident of Washington, D.C., brings a wealth of genealogical and administrative experience to the Executive Director position. She was certified in 2013 and is a researcher and writer, with experience in public, special, and academic libraries. In 2023, Darcie was named a Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists, one of the field’s highest honors. She has published two books and dozens of articles in national and specialized genealogical journals.
Stallings expressed BCG’s welcome to Darcie as the eighth Executive Director, adding: “We know she will provide outstanding service to BCG’s associates and applicants, and we wish her great success in this new endeavor.”
