Donald Mosher Award for Colonial Virginia Research

The BCG Education Fund invites applications for the 2020 Donald Mosher Award, given in recognition of outstanding Colonial Virginia research. The Donald Mosher Award is an annual $500 grant established from funds donated in 2001 by Merrill Hill Mosher, CG®, in memory of her late husband.

An entry may qualify in any of three categories:
• Family genealogies beginning with a couple residing in Virginia during the 17th or 18th century,
• Studies of origins of a 17th or 18th-century Virginia immigrant, or
• A project that makes obscure or difficult previously unpublished Virginia resources more available to researchers.


In 2019, there were two recipients of the Mosher Award:
• Eric Hedrick of Harrisonburg, Virginia, for his publication project that will include obscure or difficult-to-find Virginia resources in "Victims of the Massacre at Seybert's Fort, Augusta County, Virginia, 1758," to be published in July 2019.
• Nathan W. Murphy, MA, AG, FASG of Saratoga Springs, Utah, for his article "The English Origin of Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Clark of Charles City County, Virginia," to be in an upcoming issue of The American Genealogist.
